BSc (Hons) DipArch MA Sustainability RIBA ARB
Nicola is the founding Director of Stonewood Design.
Nicola has previously worked at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and Arup Associates in the UK and Rodney Harber Associates in South Africa.
She has an interest in working with simple and appropriate technologies, and enjoys a hands-on approach to working with materials. She has explored this over many years with the use of earth and sand in South Africa and Namibia, and more recently on museum projects in the UK.
Nicola delivered the RIBA National Award winning Story of Gardening museum in Somerset. She has most recently completed a Roman Villa and Museum. This received a RIBA South West Award, and Nicola was awarded the Project Architect of the Year award for 2023.
Nicola is a Visiting Critic and Tutor at the University of Bath School of Architecture.
She is currently involved in the design of a boutique hotel in the Wye Valley.
BA (Hons) BArch RIBA ARB
Matt is a Director at Stonewood Design.
Matt has a particular expertise in sustainable design, and during his career has delivered a number of highly regarded RIBA Award winning buildings across the UK. These include headquarters buildings for the National Trust and the Woodland Trust.
Matt has previously worked at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Arup Associates and Battle McCarthy Environmental Engineers.
He has also lectured internationally over a number of years on the subject of environmental design. He is a design critic at the University of Bath School of Architecture and most recently at Falmouth University. He is also a panel member for the Somerset Quality Review Panel.
Matt is currently working closely with Real World Studios in Box to deliver an innovative work-live project of 20 new homes and a co-working space.

Adam is a Director at Stonewood Design.
Adam has previously worked at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Cartwright Pickard Architects and the Hockerton Housing Project Association in Nottinghamshire.
He has delivered a number of key projects at Stonewood Design, including the RIBA Award winning Myrtle Cottage Garden Studio, the Pod Gallery and Kingswood Prep, Pre-Prep and Nursery.
He was awarded the RIBA South West Project Architect of the Year Award 2019 for his work on delivering inspiring educational space at Kingswood School in Bath.
Adam is a design critic at the University of Bath School of Architecture.
Adam is leading the delivery of a Creamery in Somerset, which is currently on site, and has recently completed new school facilities within a walled garden at Westonbirt School.
BSc (Hons) MArch Distinction ARB
Vanessa graduated from the University of Bath in 1999, and previously worked for Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.
Vanessa combines her time with Stonewood Design with a Teaching Fellow post at University of Bath, Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, where she tutors 4th year students.
She works across our projects advising on technical details and specification. She also uses her sketching skills for some of our presentation material.
During her time at Stonewood Design Vanessa has delivered the RIBA National Award winning Story of Gardening museum in Somerset.

Matt is an Associate at Stonewood Design
Matt has previously worked at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Wilkinson Eyre
and Latitude Architects.
He has most recently delivered a museum to view Roman archaeology, alongside a Roman Villa reconstruction. This received a RIBA South West Award 2023.
Matt works across the office supporting staff with his wealth of technical and construction knowledge.
He is currently working on the conversion of farm buildings for holiday accommodation for Dyson Farming.
Practice Manager
Tania is an Associate at Stonewood Design. She has an Associate Diploma in People Management CIPD Level 5.
Tania joined Stonewood Design in 2019, bringing us over twenty years experience of previously working at a large national award-winning architectural practice.
Tania leads on all architectural practice related issues such as mental health, employment, contract, insurance, first aid, CDM, CPD, RIBA and premises.
Since joining Tania has successfully delivered ISO 9001 and 14001 accreditation for the practice and Constructionline Gold Membership.

Oliver is a Senior Associate at Stonewood Design.
Before joining Stonewood Design in 2018, he has previously worked at Proctor and Matthews, where he worked on residential projects at Horsted Park and Alisio House, and at WilkinsonEyre, where he was involved in the design and construction of new office and research buildings at the Dyson Campus in Malmesbury, Wiltshire
Oliver has led the design and delivery of a museum in Cornwall, which is under construction.

Alice joined Stonewood Design in 2017. She has previously worked at Latham Architects in Nottingham. She graduated from the Arts University Bournemouth in 2016 and completed her masters at UWE with a First Class Distinction.
Alice has worked on the conversion of farm buildings for holiday accommodation for Dyson Farming, and a co-work space for Real World Studios.
She is currently delivering a museum in Cornwall, which is under construction.
BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology and Design ACIAT
Joe is an Associate at Stonewood Design.
Joe joined Stonewood Design in 2016 after completing his degree at the University of the West of England.
He previously worked at Heriz-Payne Architects, Glastonbury over a period of two years and also gained valuable experience at Glenn Howells Architects, London, in between study years at University.
Joe brings a great technical experience to the practice which ensures that we deliver beautiful and exquisite detailing to our buildings.

MEng Architecture and Environmental Design (First Class) MArch ARB
Hana has previously worked at Dixon Jones and Panter Hudspith Architects in London.
For her Masters project at the University of Bath, Hana designed a seed vault and traditional medicine clinic in Hout Bay, South Africa, using the unique environmental conditions as the driver for its form, and the needs of the community to inform the space.
Hana joined Stonewood Design in 2016 and during that time has worked on the delivery of a community of 38 houses at Somerbrook in Wiltshire. She most recently delivered a Rectory in Cornwall, which explored a contemporary interpretation of the Cornish vernacular.
In 2023, supported by Stonewood Design, Hana joined architecture students from the design / build unit at the University of Nottingham as a tutor on their nursery school project in Limpopo, South Africa. The studio aims to design/build meaningful projects that are simple – buildable – fun – that empower students and end users to take pride in their project.
She is currently involved in the design of a boutique hotel in the Wye Valley.
BSc (Hons) 1st Class, BArch Distinction, MA Ceramics Distinction ARB
Anne graduated from the University of Bath in 1994 and joined Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. She was a partner from 1998-2005 working on various building types including arts, housing and interior projects.
With a passion for making things, Anne studied for an MA in ceramics before joining the University of Bath in 2008 as a part-time teaching fellow in the School of Architecture and Engineering, where she currently tutors 3rd, 4th and 6th year students.
Anne has enjoyed combining this with working on a variety of projects at Stonewood Design, since 2016.
Anne and her husband Mike Keys won an RIBA SouthWest award 2017 for their contemporary home in Bath, which was also featured on Grand Designs House of the Year.
She is currently involved in the design of a boutique hotel in the Wye Valley.

Dan joined Stonewood Design in 2017 after completing his Part 2 at the University of the West of England, where he earned a Distinction and was nominated for the RIBA President’s Silver Medal.
Dan has previously worked for Yiangou Architects in the Cotswolds, and Ferguson Mann in Bristol.
He worked with Real World Studios in Box ton the design of an innovative work-live project of 20 new homes and a co-working space.
He is currently involved in the design of a boutique hotel in the Wye Valley.
Bsc (Hons) First Class M(Arch) Distinction
Maddie joined Stonewood Design in 2017 having completed her degree at the University of Bath. Her final project, “Lost at Sea”, looked at collecting and archiving of the belongings of migrants.
She completed her masters at the University of Cardiff. Her project “Area 53” explored craft within the Berwyn mountains in North Wales
Maddie has previously worked at West Waddy ADP in Oxford and Archi5 in Paris.
During her time at Stonewood Design she has worked on the design of an aircraft museum in Surrey, and a house in Salisbury.
She is currently delivering a museum in Cornwall, which is under construction.

Stephen joined Stonewood Design in 2014, having studied at Bath University. Stephen's thesis project was for the design of a dementia centre in Weston-super-Mare.
During his time at Stonewood Design he has led the delivery of a community of 88 low energy houses in the Cotswolds.
Stephen has a particular interest in low energy design and sustainability and leads research and ISO 14001 accreditation for the practice.
Stephen is currently working closely with Real World Studios in Box to deliver an innovative work-live project of 20 new homes and a co-working space.
Practice Assistant
Holly joined Stonewood Design in 2021.
She brings over twenty years experience of working at a large national award-winning architectural practice, where she was involved in project administration, bid management, ISO accreditation and document control.
Holly is currently undertaking training in accountancy, which will provide her with another skill to contribute to Stonewood Design.
BA (Hons) Architecture and Planning Dip Arch ARB
Rob joined Stonewood Design in 2020.
He previously has worked at Hassell in Sydney on a masterplan and convention centre. He has also worked at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios in Bath, where he delivered the RIBA regional award winning St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Gloucester. He most recently worked at AHMM on residential, university and school projects including a Special Needs Sixth Form Building in his home City of Bristol.
Rob is a RIBA mentor for Part 1 architectural students, a Part 3 adviser and a lecture and critic at UWE School of Architecture. He is an expert in timber construction and recently contributed to a RIBA publication “Cross Laminated Timber: A Design Stage Primer.”
He is currently working on the conversion of farm buildings for holiday accommodation for Dyson Farming.
Ben Watkinson
BA (Hons) Architecture M(Arch)
Ben joined Stonewood in 2022 having completed his Masters at the University of the West of England where his final project, exploring the archival of collective memories, earned a distinction and nomination for the RIBA Silver medal.
He graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2013 with an RIBA Bronze Medal nomination. and has previously worked at Nash Partnership, Rio Architects in Cardiff and BPR in London. Ben is a design critic at the University of the West of England,
